Summer has properly arrived and, although we should all be outside enjoying beautiful Spain, sometimes it’s nice to just pop the aircon on and watch something on the TV to cool down!
We’ve rounded up our pick of the best UK TV coming up in the next couple of months:
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, The Tudors) stars as the mysterious Mrs Applegate in this 6-part adaptation of Picnic at Hanging Rock. Based on the novel and film of the same name, the show explores the disappearance of a group of school girls from a picnic. Early reviews have been very positive, so if you like a good mystery then this is the show for you. The series started on 11th July on BBC2 and will be shown weekly on Wednesday nights.
Who Do You Think You Are?
BBC 1, 9pm on Mondays from 9th July
This fascinating series is back for the second half of it’s 15th (15th!!!) season after a short break. If you haven’t watched it before, it’s one of those shows that is so much more interesting than it should be – the show traces back the family tree of celebrities and explores the stories of their ancestors.
Great British Bake Off
Channel 4, Summer
After a successful transition to Channel 4 last year, the same judges and hosts have signed up to return to Bake Off for a second series in 2018. Expect more baking puns, floral prints and soggy bottoms in the most British show on telly!
ITV, Summer /Autumn
If you love a good costume drama, keep an eye out for the release date of this new adaptation of Vanity Fair.
Based on the novel, ‘Vanity Fair’ has been made and remade several times over the years. However, the the makers of ‘Poldark’ and ‘Victoria’ are involved in the production plus the cast looks great, so fingers crossed it’ll be a remake worth watching.
