Apple CEO Tim Cook has just revealed their next wave of products, including two iPhone models and a revamped Apple Watch. Here’s a basic overview of what we know about the new phones.
‘iPhone 8’ and ‘8 Plus’
The 8th iPhones are an upgrade of the previous 7 and 7 Plus. Apple executives described it as an “improve(ment) on everything we love about the iPhone”.
Here are some of the main improvements and features:
- It will charge wirelessly using a contact pad called AirPower
- It has a super durable glass display
- Water resistant
- Speakers are 25% louder than the 7and 7 Plus
- The 8 Plus has ‘Portrait Lighting’ features that will enhance your selfies!
- ‘A11 bionic’ processor – the most powerful yet
- Comes in silver, grey and new colour blush gold
The iPhone X – say ‘iPhone ten’ – is being described as the new ‘premium’ iPhone. It has everything the 8 and 9 Plus have, with some extra bits added in and a very different look. This 10th-anniversary-celebration product is the biggest redesign Apple has released since the first ever iPhone. The rumours about the disappearing home button were true – it now unlocks using 3D facial recognition software. It’s screen almost completely covers the front of the phone from edge to edge, with just a small notch at the top for the camera.
It’ll also put a bit of a notch in your bank account, with even the cheapest costing more than 1000€!
Sadly, the much-hyped launch event didn’t go 100% to plan… the cutting-edge facial recognition software used for unlocking the iPhone X didn’t work live onstage! Still, if you want to own one for yourself, the iPhone X can be pre-ordered from Apple from 27th October and released generally from November 3rd. The iPhone 8 will go on sale on September 22 with pre-ordering from 15 September.
